Having A Good Time

Some of us are on a comedy kick as of lately. Here is Bill Cosby on "Having a Good Time".

Prickly Pear

It has been an unusual Spring and we are predicting high temperatures throughout the summer.  We hope you enjoy this desert inspired cocktail, perfect for when low precipitation is expected.

Prickly Pear 
2 oz white tequila (Herradera Silver)
1/2 oz Cinnamon simple syrup
1/2 oz Pear Brandy (Koval)
3/4 oz fresh squeezed lime juice.

Shake and serve over ice.  Garnish with a few drops of Fees bitters and a cinnamon stick.

Note:  To make cinnamon simple syrup simmer 1 cup water with 1 cup sugar and 2 cinnamon sticks. (Experiment with different varieties of cinnamon for more exotic spice profiles.)  Cool and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

The Road of Excess: Slim Aarons

Over Slim Aarons' long career photographing the social elite, it's easy to see why his legacy endures. Like the cocktail, sunning on a beach or gilding the lily (whether our abode or ourselves) can bring such pleasure.  Of course, too much of a good thing is too much, but once in a while contentment can come when we slow the constant motion of task and accomplishment and simply idle.

Palace Fizz
2 oz botanical Gin (the more herbaceous the better)
1oz Allspice Dram
1 1/2 oz Lemon

Shake on ice. Pour into Collins glass filled with ice. Top with soda water and garnish with a brandied cherry and lemon slice skewered with a rosemary stalk.

Notes: It's a refreshing cocktail that works, I think, because the botanics of the gin balance the strong spiciness in the dram.
