Dream vs. Reality

It's summer now in Brazil. And although this hasn't been the worst winter, I can't help but dream of warmer (read: better) places. Summer in Chicago will never be as dreamy as the above photo eludes, but maybe if I make these I can have a taste:

Caipirinha Ice Pops

Yield: Makes 8 ice pops
Active time: 15 min
Total time: 1 day
Ingredients
• 1 cup mint leaves
• 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
• 1 cup water
• 3/4 cup superfine granulated sugar
• 1/3 cup cachacha

• Equipment: 8 (1/3-cup) ice pop molds and 8 wooden sticks

Purée all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Skim off any foam, then pour into molds. Freeze 30 minutes. Insert sticks, then freeze until firm, about 24 hours.

Actually, thinking about making these only makes me sad. You can't make your apartment hot enough to recreate the warmth of the sun. Oh and it also makes me think of the Minnie Riperton album cover.

It gets so hot in the summer.

But back to reality.

I took the above picture this weekend outside the gym. Here's how you recreate this "snow picnic".

First, don't worry about the blanket. The booze is all the warmth you'll need. Also, no need to grab utensils. You can't stab gin with a knife. Here's the shopping list:

1/5 bottle Seagram's Gin
1 pint of Seagram's Apple-flavored Vodka
1 pint of Hennessey
1/2 pint Svedka vodka
1 can of red bull (in case hypothermia seeps in)
1 package Newports (crisp air enhancer)
A few plastic cups (optional)
1 candle

And that's how you get through winter. You dream of better places (Brazil is what the future looks like, right?) and you laugh about the present reality. It's a good idea, no?
