DIFFICULTY SLEEPING


There was a time, not long ago when I considered myself a good sleeper. I could curl up in a cardboard box, couch, grassy hill, strangers bed, and within seconds of my head hitting the surface, find myself in a deep slumber. Those days are gone.

Chalk it up to stress, anxiety, lifestyle, poor diet or, missing my old boyfriend, this not sleeping business is no fun. As the circles under my eyes get darker, and the number of sheep I count at night grow larger, it occurrs to me that perhaps I ought to invest in a new mattress. The sleep experts say you are supposed to replace your mattress every 5-7 years. I bought a futon in college and lets just say, it is really warm to my form. Seeing as though the average person spends 1/3 of their life in bed, I decided to bite the bullet and splurge for the good stuff.

My brand new queen size Serta perfect sleeper mattress and box spring arrived this afternoon. I rushed out to target to purchase a pair of 100% organic sheet sets to go with it, as my old full size sheets didn't quite fit. I am still adjusting to the new shape of my bedroom now that I am missing some floor space, but I am anxious to see if perhaps tonight, I can get more than, an occasional good nights sleep.



SWEET DREAMS, A.K.A. BLOOD ORANGE FLIP


1/2 oz juice of blood orange
1/4 oz lemon
1/2 oz simple syrup
2 oz hendricks gin
1 egg

give it a few good shakes to emulsify, then add ice and shake hard.
strain into glass and top with soda for a nice meringue. Garnish with
3 drops of angostura bitters.
